Subject Matter of the Law
Article 1
This Law shall regulate the procedure for ascertaining the facts on the status of newborn infants suspected of having gone missing from the maternity wards or medical institutions (hereinafter: maternity wards) in the Republic of Serbia and the proceedings for awarding just financial compensation for non-pecuniary damage.
The Objective of the Law
Article 2
The objective of this Law is to ascertain the facts suitable for establishing the truth about the status of the newborn infants suspected of having gone missing from the maternity wards in the Republic of Serbia, based on evidence presented and information gathered in court proceedings from state and other authorities, parents and other persons.

The objective of this Law is also to perform the obligation of the Republic of Serbia from the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the Case of Jovanović v. Serbia (Application number 21794/09).

All provisions of this Law shall be interpreted with a view to ascertaining the truth about the fate and status of the newborn infants which are suspected of having gone missing from the maternity wards in the Republic of Serbia.
